OBITUARY
AIR C. SAIITH
The death occurred in Waipukuran Hospital of Mr Charles Smith a well-known resident of Takapau. The youngest son of the late Air James Smith, a well-known farmer in Canterbury in the ’forties, be was born at Teddimiton Bay SO years ago and in 1881 married Aliss Alarv Miller Patrick, youngest daughter r'f William Patrick, Geraldine. Tliev went to the Dannevirke district iii 1884, taking up bush land at Kiritaki, and Air Smith interested himself in local body affairs, being chairman of the Afaharaliara Road Board a member of the Woodville County Council, and of tile local school coinmit tee. He was a foundation member of the Dannevirke A. and P. Association. He moved to Takapau in 1910. taking up the sheep-farming m - 0 pertv later known as Dun Lee, where breeding of farm horses gained for him a wide reputation. Air Smith is survived by a widow and four soils— Messrs AV. J. Smith. C. J. Smith H D. Smith and C. P. Smith—and four daughters—Airs J. Babbage (Tere hunga), Mrs L. Manson (Takapau), Mrs b Hdl (AVairoa), and Aliss D. Smith (Takapau). ~
