AMBITIOUS PLAN
TO CLIMB KINCHINJUNGA. NEW ZEALAND PARTY. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. Eight Now Zealander alpine climbers are making plans to attempt the climb of Kinchinjungn, in the Himalaya Alountains. The expedition will take place next year, and of the party as planned at present live will be drawn from Christchurch. Kinehinjunga, which is the third highest peak in the world, is _ generally regarded as a more difficult climb than Alt. Everest. It is 25,146 ft high, compared with Alt. Everest (29,14 Iff), and Alt. Godwin Austen (28.250 ft). The expedition has been under consideration lor the past two years, and extensive negotiations havV: been carried on with the Government ot India for the permits which are necessary. The size of the party—eight—is considered to he the minimum with which such a hold project could he attempted. All the ararngements with the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs for passports and other documents have been completed, and tin* present intention is to sail from New Zealand about the middle of 1940 so that an attempt can he made on the peak in August of that year.
