STARR BOWKETT SOCIETY.

Tho monthly meeting of tho Palmerston North Co-operative Building Society (Starr Bowkett) was held on 'Tuesday, Mr IT. Christmas presiding. Other directors present were Messrs D. F. Smillie, H. Findlay Wilson, M A. Eliott, S. W. llnpley, and F. Jackson. An apology was received from Air J. B. Gerrand A ballot for a free of interest loan was held in Group 11. tlie succesful member being Mr H. J. Opio. of Palmerston North, who was declared entitled to an appropriation of £SOO. Business was conducted in all groups. Loans of £OOO and £-100 were approved in Groups 0 and 7, respectively, on the valuer’s report. Jn Group 8 a loan of £6OO was approved, both alter consideration of tho reports of the valuer. New shares were allotted in Group 11 and the' secretary reported that this group was functioning very successfully and that members’ payments were being well maintained. Before the commencement of business, tlie chairman extended a welcome to Mr Eliott on bis return from Australia and on behalf of the society extended to him congratulations on his elevation to the position of chairman of tho Wellington Harbour Board.
