PARENT BODY'S MEETING. NEW RECORDS AND TOURS. Pei' Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 6. If any women athletes are considered to lie up to the required standard, they will he included in the New Zealand team which is to. compete at the Olympic games at Helsinki (Finland) next year. This decision was come to at the monthly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night. The Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay Centre wrote asking the council to reconsider its decision to award the' Queensland Memorial Shield (competed for at the last New Zealand championships) to the. Canterbury Centre. The council decided to uphold the previous decision to award the. shield to Canterbury. The following applications for records were granted:—Miss E. M. Forbes (Waimate), high jump, sft. Lfin., April 1, 1939; G. C. Wood (Auckland), junior javelin throw, 152 ft. -Jin., March 11, 1939; .T. V. Deveick, 120yds. junior hurdles, 15 4-5 sec., March H, 1939; N. W. Thom (Auckland), junior broad jump, 20ft. Sin. March 11, 1939. At the request of the Hawke’s BayPoverty Bay Centre the date of the New Zealand cross country championship was fixed for August 12, at Hastings. An application from the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay Centre to conduct the junior and women’s championships for 1941 was referred to the other centres. The programme for the New Zealand Centennial Games, at Auckland in January next, was approved. The secretary of the Amateur Athletic Union of'the United States (Air Daniel ,T. Perris) wrote stating that it was doubtful whether the foreign relations committee of the union would approve of outstanding athletes going away on trips so close to the date of the Olympic Games. While they would he glad to comply, as nearly as possible, to the request to select athletes for a team, for Now Zealand from the Pacific' Coast, it might be necessary to take athletes from other parts of the country.
