CAGE-BIRD EXHIBITION. [nightingales and gouldians. Chinese nightingales. Australian gouldians, and brilliantly coloured parrakcets will he a feature of the Palmerston North Canary and Cage Bird Exhibition to be held in the lecture hail during tho Alannwatu Winter Show. Hie major exhibition opens on Saturday, but the cage-bird display will open on Wednesday next for three days. There are 500 entries, coming from all parts of Now Zealand to constitute .a record exhibition lor any provincial centre, and competition will he exceptionally strong. Including 20 cups and exceeding £IOO in money, the prize-list is the most generous yet offered for any cage-bird show in Now Zealand. Clenr-wing birds and opalines will he now varieties among the budgerigars, and a very high standard will be set by flip Yorkshire, and Norwich canaries. The facilities for tho benching of the cage-bird show are admirable and will be appreciated by both the exhibitors and the public. Diversity of entertainment, will add to the attractiveness of the Winter Show for its season of seven clays and nights. The Rugby football match between Te Ante College and the Palmerston North Bovs’ High School will lie played on Saturday afternoon. Tho motor-cycle chariot races will not he held, owing to tho fact that the rain has prevented nrnetice. However, the chariots will he seen out. and it is intended to have steers pulling them. Special days for school children in organised groups, with free admission and entertainment, will bo held on Monday and Tuesday. Sheep clog trials are scheduled for Wednesday, followed by a representative hockey match between Wellington and Manawntu. On Thursday* next the Young Farmers’ Clubs’ -sheep dog trials will be conducted, followed bv the clubs’ representative football match, in which several prospective All Blacks will be seen in action, as the teams are strong ones. Hunting competitions and steerriding will be the principal attraction on tho Friday, and for the last day have been arranged a tug-of-war contest, military tent-pitching and tins representative Rugby football match between Wanganui and Manawntu. Arrangements have been made by the A. and P. Association to erect a large green canvas blind across the front verandah posts to prevent any draught from blowing into the mainentrance vestibule. This will add to the comfort of patrons. Tho front of the building is to be specially illuminated . Visitors to the Show are urged to make a point of closely inspecting the baron exhibition, and they will also find the Department of* Agriculture’s display of outstanding educational value.
