NIGHT IN THE OPEN.
TWO PAHIATUA YOUTHS. A night spent in the open after becoming lost in the bush was the experience of two Pahiatua youths, Messrs E. Webby and M. Kershaw, while deer shooting near Marima during the week-end. The pair entered the bush on Sunday afternoon, behind Mr L. Hunt’s property, and were there for some time. Observing that night was falling they endeavoured to find a way out, but could not reach the edge of the bush in time. Rather than run the risk of falling and hurting themselves in the dark, they decided to spend the night in the open. They had no blankets and could not make a fire owing to their matches being wet. Their failure to appear late in the afternoon caused anxietv to their J parents and friends. The next morning (Mr Hunt saw their ear outside his house, and suggested the advisability of a search being carried out. A party had been organised and was already to set out when the two youths arrived. They were weary, wet and travel-stained from the hush, hut none the worse physically for their adventure.
