The average number of occupied beds at the Palmerston North Hospital during the past year has been 207.1 and at the maternity home 9.6, as against 198.3 and 9.8 respectively in the preceding year. It is interesting to compare this figure with the 1935-36 figures of 205.5 and 9.4. Despite the fact that an average of 26 chronic patients are now being accommodated at Awapuni, the Hospital numbers are a train above the 1935-36 le\el. The average number of staff members living in has been 154.5 for the Hospital and 11.6 for the maternity home.
