CHINESE CLOSE IN
SURROUNDING CANTON
CITY CAPTURED
LONDON, April 17,
Reports from Hong Kong state that the Chinese offensive rolls on along the entire 1500-mile front.
The Chinese are steadily closing in on Canton, leaving the Japanese with the only outlet by the Pearl River, which is at present being kept clear only by the overwhelming superiority of naval guns. The Chinese have captured the strategic city of Maotsin on the Yellow River, thus removing the threat to their communications with Russia.
