HORSEMAN KILLED
Per Press Association. GISBORNE, April 16. An accident near Whatatutu on Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of Air Clifford Smith, aged 28. manager of Air G. Al. Newman’s property. Oil Springs Creek. Air Smith was thrown from a horse and killed. Air and Airs Smith were watering their horses at a waterliole when Air Smith’s horse drew back suddenly, throwing his rider, who caught a foot in the stirrup and was dragged for half a. mile downhill. His wife unsuccessfully tried to head off the bolting animal.
