Y.M.C.A. HARRIERS.

SEASON OPENED. The Y.M.C.A. Harrier Club. held the first run of the season on Saturday. There was a good attendance, several members of the ncwly-lormed Feilding club being present. The president (Mr J. Eagle) welcomed new members, and wished the Feilding members a successful season. The course of about four miles, whicn started from the Y.M.C.A., led along iNgata and North Streets and across the paddocks to Flyger’s Line. The runners returned homo along I'lvger’s Line and Rangitikei Line. A run in held over the last 500 yards resulted in C McVicar finishing first, A. Cozens second and It. Laniberton (Feilding) third. Then followed C. Weller, N. Hearsey. L. Haythornc, A. Carlisle, D. McCardle, S. Mc\ iear and 1. Vautier.

Considering it was the first run, the attendance was very encouraging. An acquisition to the club will be A. Cozens, a well-known track performet. J. Wood, the club’s most promising runner two years ago, has recovered fully from liis serious accident and should excel in the cross-country runs later in the season. I. Vautier is hack in the district and is running again after an absence of three years from the sport. C. Weller ran very well in the “run in,” it being his first run for four months. Now members include C. Yerry, from the Methodist Club, Wellington, and A. Carlisle, who also shows promise. L. Hawthorne, C. McVicar, J. Scott, D. McCardle, A. Cozens and K. Galloway have all performed with distinction during the past season and are very fit at present. However, S. MeYicar, J. Spall, K. Woodd and A. Hearsey are young runners who should not take long to get fit. Much is expected of the last-named this season. A Newlands and K. Wiiby, who were prominent members two seasons ago. also turned out on Saturday. Two of the older runners, £5. Oxenham and H. McDonald, were not participating on Saturday and, although the first-named has definitely retired, McDonald will probably compete later in the season. Members will travel io Feilding next Saturday to participate in the official opening of the Feilding Club. Afternoon tea was served alter the run by members of the ladies’ committee.
