140 SHIPS READY TO LEAVE.
Received April 17. 10.45 a.m. NEW YORK. April 16,
The United States Pacific Fleet, at present in the Atlantic, has been ordered to return to the Pacific and begin high-speed refuelling. Thousands of officers and ratings have had their shore leave cancelled. A total of 140 vessels will be ready to leave in 36 hours, while 56 ships will remain in the Atlantic. This move is seen to have a hearing on the position in the Far_ East where important developments ’ are believed to be pending.
