BASE METALS MARKET.
PRICES GENERALLY FIRM. LONDON, March 27. The official T-ondon (middle) quotations compare with those previously cabled as
horse. The question here arises, does the present carrying capacity warrant top-dressing, or will the application of manure increase the stock carrying capacity sufficiently to recoup the outlay and produce a fair margin of profit r - It is questionable whether top-dress-ing pays on hill country with a carrying capacity of less than two ewes per acre. Summarised, deterioration of hill country must be intelligently considered in all its phases in order to rectify mistakes of the past, avoid their repetition, a.nd further useless expenditure of capital and labour on land unsuited to pastoral activities.
