RUGBY FOOTBALL.
PREPARATIONS FOR SEASON. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The management committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union met last evening, Mr A. M. Ongley presiding. Also present were Messrs H. R. Crawford, W. Gleeson, K. W. Fglinton, J. R. Hardie. 11. Hands, I. Davidson, J. Eagle, R. L. Park and E. Clevely. Leave of absence was granted Messrs J. G. Elliot, J. A. Colquhoun and B. Palmer. A welcome was extended to the new secretary (Mr G. A. Brown), wdio. the chairman said, had rendered excellent service to Rugby in the past and would prove of untold value to the union in the future. The Primary Schools’ Football Association advised that Mr Park had been appointed the association's delegate on the union. It was decided that the season for seniors and juniors open on ApriT 29that the third grade competition start on Mav 5, and that the opening date for other grades he left until the nominations are received. A letter was read from the St. Patrick’s Club asking for gymnasium facilities on Wednesday evenings throughout the season. The Kia Toa Club sought the facilities on Thursday evenings and the Old Boys Club on Tuesday evenings. Messrs Colquhoun Fglinton and Crawford were appointed a committee to inquire into the matter of additional training facilities and report to the next meeting, the allocation of nights to be held over in the meantime. A letter was read from the Jackevtnwn Football Club stating that affiliation would not be sought this season and it seemed that the club would be disbanding.—Received. The St. Patrick’s Club was granted permission to play in the Spillane Cup tourney at Wanganui during Easter. The Massey College Club was granted permission to change its colours to Cambridge blue and to change its name to Universitv. The United and Tvia Toa Clubs were granted the use of grounds at Rugby Park for practices next Saturday. The following sub-committees were appointed :— Postponement committee, the chairman, secretary and Mr Hardie; grounds and gymnasium, Messrs Colquhoun Eglinton. Crawford and Hands: fixtures. Mr P. O. Pkoglmid : Wondville representative. Mr R. B'v; Efficiency Cup, Messrs Low, Hands and the secretary.
