AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. FT tie weather prevailed last evening for the sports meeting (which was postponed from the previous week), conducted by the Palmerston North Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. In the cycling the riders were at their best, as they had just returned from the West Coast championships, which were held at Wanganui. R. Ixrader, who rode excellently at Wanganui, was to the fore again. FJo was narrowly beaten by 11. Stewart (F'eilding) in the half-mile race, and he and 11. Essex crossed the line practically together in the three-mile event, if. Stewart (F’oilding), who also rode prominently at the championships, taking the junior honours, gave the opposition a hard task. For the Manning Badge, fxiader narrowly beat L. Hazelwood. The following are the riders and their times: R. Loader (43 4-ssec), L. Hazelwood (44), 11. Stewart (45 1-5), 11. lissex (45 3-5), 11. Donovan (47).
In the tabloid sports United F'ootball Club won the men’s section and P.D.C. file women’s. Public Services, who have held the trophy for three weeks, lost to P.D.C.
The judge for the national dancing was Miss B. Evans, and the pipers Messrs U. >Scott and L. IPilcher. The results are as follow: —
