AUCKLAND WOOL SALE. GOOD OPENING TONE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 27. Auckland opened its third wool sale with a catalogue of over 30,000 bales, setting a new record, before a bench of over sixty buyers. Bidding started briskly and competition was exceptionally keen for the better classes of wool, but bidding was irregular lor shabby sorts. Compared with the second sale, in February, values appeared to be up about a halfpenny, and much on a par with those at Wellington last week. However, it is impossible to make an exact comparison, as much of to-day’s offerings is of inferior condition, a quantity is discoloured, a good deal of it is tender, and many lots carry more seed than usual. Taking all factors into consideration, the sale opened well. The first catalogue of 659 lots, comprising 7740 bales, was sold in an hour and there was only a handful of passings. For fine crossbreds, average sorts brought 9d to lOd, and inferior 7Jd to Bjd. Average crossbred, Bjd to 9d; inferior, 7-jd to B£d. Lambs. —Fine, 9d to 10)d ; medium, Bjd to 9jd: seedy, 4jd to 6-id. Bellies and pieces.—Good to super, 7d to 8d; low, 5d to 61 d
Crutchings.—Medium to good, 6id to 7-jd.
