Twenty-seven persons, three of them women, were arrested hv the police late on Saturday night when they raided two adjoining houses in Hobson Street oposite the Trades Hall, and seized quantities of liquor. In spite of the lateness of the hour and the fact that the raids occupied some thing like 1J hours, about 51)0 people crowded the roadway, till the Black A|aria had left with its final load. The arrested men and women spent the week-end in the cells, and will appear on varying charges before a Magistrate to-morrow. A party of 10 police officers raided both premises simultaneously short 1 v after VI o’clock. They had little difficulty in securing entry and scarcely before the occupants were aware of it. every means of escape had been closed.
