EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” MARCH 24, 1909.
The levies on local bodies by the Palmerston North Hospital Board for 1909-10 had been fixed as follow: Palmerston North Borough Council, £025 8s 6d; Feilding Borough Council, £l7l 8s 2d; Foxton Borough Council, £49 Is 4<l; Kairanga County Council, £691 5s 9d; Mnnawatu County Council, £532 13s 3d ; Kiwi tea County Council, £5lO 15s 2d; Oroua County Council, £5Ol 76 4d; Pohangina County Council, £263 14s 4d; Halcombe Town Board, £8 15s 8d; Itongotea Town Board, £ll 7s Bd. The Palmerston North High School Board of Governors had accepted a tender of £5090 for the erection of a new technical school in brick. New Zealand’s offer to donate a battleship to the British Navy had stirred the patriotism of other colonies. Australia had opened a subscription list for the purchase of a similar warship, and Canada had done likewise. Terrace End residents had taken preliminary steps towards the establishment of a bowling club in that suburb.
