PROPOSED ALTERATION. A. AND P. COMMITTEE A proposal to widen the representation on the general committee was not endorsed at a meeting of the committee of tlie Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association, when the matter was dealt with to-day, it being maintained that the present system was quite satisfactory—provided the forfeiture of seat rule was enforced — as in filling vacancies attention was always given to the matter of representation to important organisations. The subject was brought forward by NTr C. G. Hayward, who suggested that the rules should be altered to provide for representatives of the retailers, the Headmasters’ Association and sports organisations to have seats on the committee. The chairman (Mr A. Rurgoss) did not favour the suggestion. The committee at present was quite big enough, he said. There were 35 members elected by the annual meeting and with the representatives of other bodies the number was increased to 65. Tf anything, it was too big a committee already. Mr Hayward assured the meeting that there was no intention to increase the number mi the committee. The position was that many members did not attend and seemed to show little interest. His proposal was brought forward solely with a view to getting a “live” committee. The majority of members considered that the present position was qutio satisfactory, but they thought that the rule regarding the forfeiture of seats through non-attendance at meetings should l>e enforced. The chairman said that lie was ontirelv in agreement with Hie idea of keeping the committee active, and if the rule was enforced the opportunity would he open from time to time to fill vacancies caused by forfeiture of seats, and thus give wider and active representation. The suggestion, as stated, was not endorsed.
