MANAWATU CLUB. ENTHUSIASTIC 0 UTLOOIv. An enthusiastic attendance at the annual meeting of the Manawatu Golf Club, last night, augurs well for the coming season at the ilokowhitu links. At the outset, Air S. A. (Joldinghain (retiring president) presided, but upon the election of Air B. E. Keillor to office the chair was taken by the latter. About 70 members were present. The president expressed his pleasure at seeing such a large attendance and recalled that only two years ago it had been necessary to search for more members to make a quorum on that occasion. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs 11. R. Cooper, N. A. Sinclair, and L. A. Abraham. A letter from Mr Abraham was road extending congratulations to the club on the result of the past season. Mr Goldingham, referring to Mr Abraham’s letter, said they should be grateful to Air Abraham for tlie interest he took in the club. The annual report and balance-sheet (as already published) were adopted after the chairman had briefly touched upon their salient facts. He paid a tribute to the work of tlie various committees. In relation to the accounts it would be noticed that they were in a very healthy condition. The" officers for the new season are - President, Mr It. E. Keillor; vice-presi-dents, Messrs S. A. Goldingham, and A. J. M. Goodwin; captain, Air K. Giendinning; auditor, Mr P. L. Sim; hon. treasurer, Air E. V. Spear; election of three members of the committee, Alessrs F. A. Cousins, E. E. Alabin, and E. R. Wimsett. THE NEW PRESIDENT. Mr Goldingham said it gave _ him great pleasure to declare Mr Keillor elected as president. Air Keillor had been associated with the green committee for most of the time of his club membership, and the speaker knew Air Keillor’s work in this connection was much appreciated. Mr Keillor, in taking the chair, said it was a high honour to become president of the club. It was extremely gratifying to bo in bis position. He congratulated Mr Goldingham on the able manner in which be bad carried out his duties as president. Tlie club had always been fortunate in its presidents, and they had done much to build Hie club up to what is to-day—-one of the lxt>t in the country. In declaring Mr K. Giendinning elected as captain. Air Keiller paid a tribute to the services of Air Giendinning, who bad taken the job on following the transfer of Air J. P. Hornabrook to Mastorton. Acknowledging his election, Mr Giendinning asked for the co-operation of members which was given him for tlie period he was captain last year. FINE CONDITION OF GREENS. Tlie green committee’s report stated that tlie greens were m good condition despite tne dry weather, and it was exported, if ram fell shortly, that they would be in the best condition yet in the coming year, the committee bad j carried on us progressive policy ol j improving the course and generally keeping it up to a very high standard. Constant attention to the watering ol the greens and systematic manuring, combined with coring, had played a big part In bringing greens to tho.r present standard oi pe-rl ectioii. The committee reported that Oucliunga weed had shown up very much during the last season in both the greens and fairways, and had necessitated constant spraying with arsenate poiitoxide to keep ii under control. The secretary also read the report of the machine committee, which stated that when tlie tractor was replaced tlie club would have a plant second to none in New Zealand. It was decided that the legal fraternity again be allowed the use of the club finks for their' annual tournament. It was resolved to recommend to the incoming committee that honours boards for past presidents of the club and life members I>o erected in the clubhouse. A letter will be sent containing the club’s kind regards to Mr and Mrs L. A. Abraham (patron and patroness respectively). The meeting concluded with a motion of appreciation to the work of the committee and the secretary (Mr K. G. Chamberlain), which was carried! by acclamation. The meeting also decided to thank the professional (Mr J. Galloway) for his work during the year. The president also acknowledged the work of the secretary, treasurer the ladies’ club, the staff.
