(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, March 20. The friends of Miss Ethel Walls, who has been ill at the residence of her parents, Mr and Mrs G. F. Walls, of Avenue Hoad, for the past week, will regret to learn that she entered the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday. Mr» J. Smith, of Johnston Street, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery after undergoing an operation. At the tennis courts on Saturday a gala was hold. spectivoly; senior ladies’ handicap singles, by Miss M. Thynne; and junior ladies’ handicap singles, Mrs I j. C. Bryfint. Mr A. W. Walla, local linesman for the ITorowhenua Electric Power Board, had a fortunate escape from losing his life while working on a power pole in Union Street, on Friday afternoon. Just as he was about to descond a pole, the ladder slipped and slewed round the po.o. . _ He landed on his feet but sustained painful injuries a« a result. ton. lie received his education at the Stale School and later journeyed from Foxton to Palmerston North to attend the Boys’ High School as a day pupil. On leaving High School he went to Wellington, whither his parents had thon removed and studied for the engineering profession. lie subsequently gained a position with the Public Works Department, which took him to the Great Barrier. IJ is parents, Mr and Mrs J. Claris, lived in Foxton for many years.
