WATERFRONT WORK
NO SHIPS HELD UP. SOME SHORT-MANNED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 22. As far as be was aware work was being carried on satisfactorily on the waterfront, said Mr VV. Bennett, secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Employers’ Association. When asked if the supply of labour was equal to requirements he said that no ships were held up though some were shortmanned. The shortage of labour was natural in the circumstances and would probably continue a day or two. A number of non-union workers were again engaged to-day. Regarling negotiations for a new Dominion agreement for watersiders, Mr Bennett said an application for the hearing of the dispute was already liefore the Court and could not be withdrawn without the consent of both parties. The employers were of the opinion that the Court was a proper and legal body for the interpretation and making ol awards.
