HOTEL PORTER CONVICTED.
OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 21. 'The finding of eight men hidden in a locked bathroom of a city hot-el by a police-sergeant who visited the premises led to the appearance of Stanley Carter, a porter, before the Dlagistrate, Dir J. H. Luxford, on March 3.
The Dlagistrate, in a reserved judgment to-day, finding Carter guilty ot obstructing the police and imposing a fine of £6 and costs, said that defendant acted solely with the intention of preventing the police from obtaining the necessary evidence to prove that certain persons had been found. The evidence also was sufficient to support a conviction for inciting or encouraging eight persons to obstruct the police.
