MAN BURIED ALIVE
TWO OTHERS INJURED. SUDDEN FA EL OF KOCIv. l’cr Press Association. Ti.MAPU, March 20. One man was buried alive and two others injured, one of them seriously, when, without warning, several thousand tons of rock and debris fell in a <1 uarr.v at the Cave lime works, 20 miles from Timaru, this morning. The victims were: KILLED. EltIC WOODS, married, a resident of Cave. INJURED. JAMES GUNN AIcVEY, severe internal injuries. MARCUS McVKY, brother of James JMoVey, dislocated shoulder and head injuries. Air Marcus McVoy was working at the top of a cliff face. 100 feet high, when the face gave way. lie gripped at the safety rope but missed, and fell on top of the falling rock. Air Woods, who was buried ill the fall, was working a few feet up from the bottom of the cliff and was trapped without hope of escape. Air James Ale Acy was working on a tractor scoop at the foot of the cliff. The tractor was hurled 20 yards across the flat and down a baidc. Air AlcYey retained his seat till the tractor came to rest at the lxittom of the bank, when he was thrown a further 15 feet among willows. At hen found ho had a large, limestone rock across his groin. A fourth man in the quarry, Air Alfred Kerr, escaped uninjured.
