CONTROL IN THE MANAWATU. Mr J. T. McDonald was in the chair at a meeting of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, last evening. Also present were Mrs It. C. French and Messrs It. O. Haddon (secretary), J. Christie, C. H. Tate, L. A. Jteichenbach and C. C. Yates. The chairman commended the Northern Cmij on its splenuul display at the cavalcade in connection witn the recent Physical Fitness AA’eek Campaign. Letters of appreciation for the work they did during the visit of the players from iiutt Valley are to be lorwarded to Alesdames French, iteichenbacii and McDonald. Appreciation of their services was also placed on record.

A match between a team of players under 21 years ol age from Wellington and a Manawatu side, which was to have been played on March 19 at Palmerston North, had transport been available, will be played this coming week-end should the new arrangements prove satisfactory to the southern side.—The action of the secretary in inviting the team to visit Palmerston North next week-end was confirmed. From the Northern Club a letter was received soliciting a grant for the purpose of erecting a pavilion for the tennis section, in which there are 150 players. The section had asked the club to erect the desired pavilion, but as there were not sufficient funds on hand a grant of £2OO was desired. The West End Club also made application for funds for the erection of a building. Mr Tate was of the opinion that other applications would probably he lodged under the combined sports bodies’ art union scheme, and he recommended that they be forwarded to the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association as soon as they come to hand. The applications of the Northern and West End Clubs are to be forwarded. Messrs McDonald, Haddon and Yates were appointed a sub-committee to draft an application from the association for assistance under this scheme also.
