GARRISON BAND.
The Palmerston North Garrison Band paid a visit to Foxton Beach on Sunday; wives and families and many friends accompanied them, and the day was made a combination of business and pleasure. After having partaken of a picnic lunch, the band assembled at the camp end of the beach and under the baton of Lieutenant C. Pike presented a fine programme, consisting of popular melodies, including “Harbour Lights,” "Donkey’s Serenade,” “Little Old Lady,” “Granny Wore Her Crinoline,” and “Maire, My Girl,” also the hymns, “Rock of Ages,” by special request. The music attracted a large crowd and it would appear from the generous applause that music was never so much appreciated. At a suitable juncture Mr Perronu, Mayor of Foxton, who is also president, of the Foxton Life-Saving Chib, voiced the appreciation of the Beach Committee and those present at the presence of the hand, and also reoucstcd the hand to march the members of the Life-saving Club to the open beach where a lifesaving demonstration was given by two teams, showing the great value of such clubs. The hand again played several numbers and marched back again, playing that stirring march. “Death or Glory.” Refreshments wore again to the fore. There was a generous response to a collection.
