NEW BUILDING
CITY COUNCIL PROPOSAL. PLANS BEING PREPARED. Instructions have l>een issued by the Palmerston North City Council for the preparation of a sketch plan for a three-storey block of shops and offices in Main Street, together witli sufficient details to place the matter before the Local Government Loans Board with a view to obtaining permission to seek the consent of the ratepayers to a loan proposal. The site of the proposed new budding extends from the corner of the Square and Main Street towards Princess Street to the boundary of the Courthouse grounds, and will involve the demolition of buildings which have been there for over forty years, but will make a fine new block facing the Post Office. Part of the existing building formerly housed the municipal library until the latter was moved over eight years ago.
