MISCELLANEOUS CASES. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Palmerston North yesterday. Harold Robinson, labourer, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a breach of probation at Wliangarei. Mr H. Cole (Probation Officer) stated that defendant had not reported for some years and the balance of money ordered to be paid into Court was still owing. A remand was granted for a period of four weeks, bail being allowed in defendant’s own recognisance.

L. Drinkwater, of Ohakea, was charged with obtaining possession of a firearm without a license. R. J. Lissington, labourer, pleaded guilty to a charge of delivering possession of a firearm without a permit. Fines of 5s and costs were imposed in each instance. On charges of being on licensed premises after hours and tendering a false name, Michael Morrissey, who did not appear, was fined £1 and 10s costs on each charge. Arthur Free, charged with being found on licensed premises after hours and with giving a false name, pleaded guilty in each instance and was fined a total of £2, with 6s costs. A J. Shailer pleaded guilty, through Mr A. M. Ongley, to a charge of negotiating the Princess Street level crossing when the line was not clear, a collision having occurred with a jigger, and was fined £l, with 10s costs. N. G. Trillo, traveller, on a charge of driving a car without a license on the Wanganu-Palmerston North main highway, to which he pleaded guilty, was fined £lO and costs. Senior-Ser-geant J. Mclntyre gave evidence that Trillo bad on the day in question appeared in the Wanganui Magistrate's Court, when his license had been cancelled. it was while returning to Palmerston North that the breach had occurred.

A fine of £3, with 10s costs, was imposed on E. J. Brogden, charged with entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. R. N. J. Allan, on charges of driving a motor-cycle without a footrest and without a warrant of fitness was fined a total of £2, with costs 12s and 10s respectively. W. Apirana was fined £3, with 15s costs, for driving a motor vehicle in a manner which in the circumstances might have been dangerous to the public, and £l, with 10s costs, for not possessing a warant of fitness. H. Coupe, of Bunnythorpe, was fined £2, with 10s costs, on a charge of leaving an unlighted car on the Palmerston North-Himatangi main highway. W. J. Goodwin, on charges of driving a car with insufficient lights on the Napier-Palmerston North main highway, and failure to possess a warrant of fitness, was fined £2 on the first charge and £1 on the second, with costs 10s in each instance. A fine of £l, with costs 10s, was imposed on M. F. Houghton, of Aokautere, for operating a motor-cycle without a license. S. H. Lett pleaded guilty, through Mr H. R. Cooper, to charges of leaving an unlighted car on the Palmerston North-Himatangi main highway and failure to possess a warant of fitness. Fines of £2 (with 12s costs) and 10s (with 10s costs) were imposed. L. Mangham, on a charge of driving a truck without a warrant of fitness, was fined £l, with 10s costs. A. H. White pleaded guilty, through Mr E. G. Rowe, to a charge that ho had failed to comply with a notification to effect repairs to a building under notification of the City Council (Mr H. R. Cooper).—Mr Rowe stated that steps had now been taken to effect repairs. A fine of £l. with £2 Is 6d costs, was imposed. B. E. Andrews, a serviceman, charged with driving a motor-car on the Feilding-Awahuri Road without due care and attention, pleaded not guilty. After hearing evidence the Magistrate imposed a fine of £l, with 16s costs. On a charge of failing to keep to the left of the highway at the Ashhurst bridge on December 12. S. R Reed was ordered to pay 10s costs only. A fine of £l, with 18s costs, was imposed on D. Y. Saywell for failing to indicate a right-hand turn on the Palmerston North-Shannon main highway. J. S. Purvey appeared on remand charged that, while in a state of intoxication, he was in charge of a mo-tor-car in Broadway on February 16. Mr A. M. Ongley appeared for defendant, who pleaded not guilty. Mr Ongley submitted that the evidence fell short of the requirements of the Motor Vehicles Act relating to the phrase “in charge’’ of a car. From the police evidence it had not been shown that defendant had been in control of the car ■ he had been on the pavement and’, in fact, moving away from his car. A fine of £lO was imposed and defendant’s license was cancelled for 12 months SEVEN DAYS’ GAOL. Appearing before Mr H. P. Lawry. S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston North yesterday afternoon John Wilfred May, a labourer, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment on a charge of indecent exposure.
