(From Our Own Correspondent.) v BULLS, Feb. 20.

The February sitting of tlie Magistrate s Court occupied most of the day. Mr It. [M. Watson, S.M., presided, and Mr L. M. i Taverner, J.P., was also on the Bench. Nicol Bros. (Mr Aiackay) claimed £3l 3s Id from Mr and Nrs Neeley, of To Awajrnutu, being for groceries supplied. Mr (j. ; Kells, of Palmerston North, appeared for l defendants. Plaintiffs’ solicitor contended I that his clients were entitled to judgment against Air Neely as a result of arrangements made for willholding proceedings. As defendants had at no time agreed on the amount they would pay, His Worship considered that £l2 would be a fair allowance, and gave judgment against both defendants tor this amount, plus costs £4 9s. Sergeant T. l'\ Brenchlcy prosecuted and Inspectors 11. J. howler and J. 11. It. Sem- | pie also gave evidence in the following leases, judgment being given as follows:For speeding across the Bridge Street-High Street intersection I. C. Sanford was fined £2: IS. C. Browne, who overtook other vehicles on the same intersection, was lined £1 10s; W. Brotherstone, for driving in a manner which might have. been dangerous, was fined £2; for not having a warrant of fitness for a lorry, J. AI. Blair .was fined £1; for overtaking another vehicle when he did not have a clear view of the road. It. G. Jeromsen was fined £2; failure to keep as close as practicable to the left cost T. Brccdon £2; J. AlcClurq, for driving a ear, not having a driver’s license to do so, was fined £5; for a breach of his prohibition order AlcCluro was convicted and fined £1: AI. J. Hehir, for failing to drive with due care, was fined £1 10s; failure to stop at the Greatford railway crossing resulted in W. P. Willis being fined 15s; N. J. Prichard, for failing to give way to traffic approaching from the right, was fined £1 kjs ; , , The fire danger while the whole countryside is parched and dry was exemplified on Friday morning, when an outbreak occurred at the Rangitikei Coif Club’s links on Parewanui Road. In a few minutes the conflagration, fanned by a strong wind, had spread over a wide area, and it was fortunate that a number of young men were quickly gathered together, for it took all their efforts to sa\ e a dwelling and a pavilion on the property, the task of. boating the ground with wet sacks occupying over three hours. Several lady members of the club also helped, and afterwards the firefighters were regaled with very welcome refreshments.
