A district high school was opened in Taihape with a roll number of 25. For the two days of the AVoodvi.llo races the fotalisator handled £13,710 compared with £17,061 the previous year. Over £3OO w-as received from book-makers in fees. The Palmerston North Borough Council decided to investigate the matter of installing electric light in the Opera House. The Cheltenham Dairy Co. paid out to suppliers £3156 3s 4d for bntterfat supplied during January. The population of New South Wales was 1,605.032. which was the highest figure in the history of the State. The total strength of the New Zealand defence forces was 20,409.
