STOCK STAMPEDE.
FRONTIER SCENES
(Independent Cable Service.) LONDON Feb. 9. Thousands of cattle and sheep, stampeded by the incessant bombardments of Catalonia, are moving up toward the French border in the wake of their fleeing owners. Spanish Government troops have attempted in vain to check this migration of panicked stock. . French frontier authorities fear that the animals will cross the border at many points, bringing to I* rench territory some of the diseases which are epidemic in Catalonia. Hungry inhabitants of Barcelona raided food shops, but were driven back by police and troops. General Franco’s forces of occupation are hav-, ing the greatest difficulty in bringing adequate food supplies to the city over the shell-torn roads. Even such supplies as have entered the city have caused an embarrassing shortage in interior centres.
