TUBERCULOSIS TREATMENT.

LARGER SCALE ANTICIPATED,

BOARD’S ADVOCACY

“Tho remit put forward from this board advocating the establishment of a National Council of Tuberculosis met with a good reception from the conference,” stated the chairman (Mr J. A. Nash), at the meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, to-day, when reporting on the Hospital Boards’ Association Conference recently held at New Plymouth. “The matter was referred to tho executive committee of the association to take action,” he added, “and tho recommendation was that representatives from boards controlling sanatoria or boards having under their control a large number of tuberculosis patients should lie co-opted with tho executive, with a view to having something definite done to improve tho present system for the treatment of and the control of the spread of infection from pulmonary tuberculosis. I feel that as a result of this move wo can anticipate that something will ha attempted on a larger scale than hitherto, and should eventually bring about, a considerable reduction in the incidence of this disease. “Tlie other remits which this board put forward, including payments to staff other than nurses who may contract tuberculosis, met with a good reception from the conference and wore all adopted except in the case of tho remit concerning a standing committee to co-operate with a national organisation to deal with hospital supplies. which we agreed to withdraw after hearing an explanation from Dr. R. A. Shore, of the Health Department.”
