ENGLAND OU TFOR 215. HUTTON REACHES 92. JOHANNESBURG, Feb. IS. W. R. Hammond won the toss in the fourth Test match between England and South Africa. He has not lost it once against Australia or South Africa. The start was slightly delayed by rain, but the wicket was not affected. England batted first and scored 215 (Hutton 92). At stumps, South Africa had made 11 without loss. The teams are:

Newton (Orange Free State), and R. F. Grieveson (Transvaal). When England’s score was 14 for one, Gibb lost his wicket, edging a rising ball from Langton into the slips. Newson, South Africa’s new fast-me-dium howler, troubled Paynter. who had a narrow escape in the slips. There was n second delay because of rain 33 minutes after the start of play. On resuming, Newson snapped up two smart, catches. Hutton reached an unruffled half-century and completed his thousand runs for the tour. Ames started by crashing three overpitched balls from Langton through the covers, but fell to a grand offbreak. After tea. Hutton bit freelv till lie mistimed a big off-break. He batted for 202 minutes without giving a chance. When the light became poor, the English batting showed up very weak against- the excellent howling and fielding.
