SHOTGUN DISCHARGES.
YOUNG WOMAN KILLED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 19. A shotgun which dropped through the open doorway of a motor-car that had lieen stopped outside a service station at Ramarania, to-day, struck the roadway and discharged, striking a woman in the chest and throat, _ and killing her instantly. The victim was: MRS PHYLLIS MARIAN CLOUGH, aged 21, of Newmarket. JThe woman was one of a party who left Auckland to spend tho day in the country to do some shooting. The shotgun lay with the muzzle pointed outward toward the back window, and it was loaded in both barrels. When the door was opened the gun butt slid from its position, bumped over the step and struck the roadway. Althrougli the gun was fitted with a safety catch, which had lieen set, during the passage from the car to the roadway the catch was released and the impact discharged one barrel.
