PHYSICAL FITNESS.
A special and inspiring service in connection with the Physical Fitness Campaign was held in the Woodville Methodist Church on Sunday morning, it being attended bv the Mayor (Mr R. R. Johnston) and members of the Borough Council, who were cordially welcomed by the preacher. Rev. T. Coatsworth. The address to the children dealt with physical fitness. The minister stressed the necessity for an all-round development, physical, mental and spiritual. A Scottish international Rugby player was quoted as saying that “the human being with the soul taken away was like an electric bulb without electricity.”
An eloquent discourse on “Moral Rearmament” was based on a verse from Haggai 2-: 4: “Be strong a.ll ye people of the land, and work, for I am with you, saith the Lord of Host 6.”
An appropriate anthem was sung by the choir, and a solo was rendered by Mrs F. Richards. Mrs A. Smith presided at the organ. The evening service was also of a special nature, the subject of the address being “The. Christian Race.”
At St. David’s Presbyterian Church morning service Rev. D. H. Hay made reference to the aims of the National Fitness Campaign in addresses to the children and the' congregation. His theme was the worth of human personality, body and spirit. Captain L, H. Jones, of the Salvation Army, took as liis theme for Sunday’s fitness address, “Obedience, the first law of Nature and the Spirit realm.” “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams.” (Samuel 15: 22) was the text.
