A remit from Auckland, that the small house competition as at present constituted be discontinued and in place thereof a competition for tlie award of a bronze medai be instituted for the best domestic architecture in New Zealand with an approximate area of 2500 square feet as a limit to size, was carried. On behalf of the Otago branch, Mr McDowell Smith submitted the following remit: That tlie institute’s regulations governing tlie architectural competition shall include provision for a fund additional to the prize money, for the purpose of supplying every competitor with a complete set of printed or photographic reproductions in leaflet form of the most important plans and elevations of schemes which receive premiums and honourable mention. —The remit was altered to one recommending the executive of the institute to explore the possibilities of this proposal. It was decided that no transfers should he made this year to the Benevolent Professional Defence Scholarship, the Beauchamp-Platts Memorial Prize or the library funds. It was decided that the 1940 conference he held in Wellington on dates to he fixed by the executive.

The opinion that the institute at its last conference had passed a motion the implications and ramifications of which it had not fully considered, was expressed by Canterbury members when the Canterbury branch introduced a remit seeking to alter the resolution of last year. That resolution dealt with the setting up of a board of examiners on architctural papers, and suggested that one of its members should be an overseas educationist.

The following amendment was carried:—That in view of the verbal report that the Senate of the University of New Zealand has agreed to n proposal for a board of examiners, no action can be taken.
