FASTEST FIGHTER
BRITAIN’S SECRET ’PLANE. LONDON, Feb. 9. Britain claims the fastest two-seater fighting ’plane in the world—the Boulton Paul Defiant. Now in production for the R.A.F., the Defiant is powered with a Rolls Royee Merlin liquid-cool-ed 12-cylinder engine, fitted with a De Jfavilland three-bladed controllablepitch propeller. Split flaps are fitted to the wings to facilitate landing and taking off. A feature is the exceptionally powerful armament carried in a mechanical gun turret amidships, but details are a closely-guarded secret. The fastest single-seater warplane iu the world is the Hurricane Spitfire.
