A HEALTHY PEOPLE.

SPIRIT OF CO-OPERATION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 16. An official reception to the delegates to the tenth Australian and New Zealand cancer conference, which is being held in Wellington, was given by the Government in Parliament House this afternoon. “We believe that wherever science directs we should go,” said the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage), in welcoming the guests. “Scientific investigation of matters concerning the health of the people cannot be overlooked or, at least, we cannot afford to overlook that particular aspect of human affairs.

“We want to see the best medical service in the world in New Zealand, and we want to see the best working conditions for those who give the service. I am speaking not only for Labour ; I am speaking for the Government of this country. That is our ideal and our objective, and we are going straight ahead with it.” Sir James Elliott, president of the New Zealand branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign, said he felt certain that the extremely friendly relations between the Australian and New Zealand doctors would do much to promote goodwill among the people of both countries. Relying on behalf of the visitors, Dr W. H. L. Cumpston, Director-General of Health for the Commonwealth, said:—“The future of the white races in this part of the world lies largely in our hands. What the future has for us we don’t know, but it is clear to us of the Australian delegation that whatever may come we will be found working with you in the same spirit of happy co-operation that we have experienced on this occasion ”
