OHAKEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OIIAKEA, Feb. 16. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Monday, there being presont Messrs K. Vile (chairman), 11. Ellery (secretary), J. Capstick and R. Bartlett. An aimlogy for absence was received from Mr L. Koberstein. Correspondence was received from the Education Board regarding swimming grants to cover the cost ol transport to and from tho place of instruction. It was decided to make application for a grant. It was decided to purchase the requisite wood to construct suitable work benches in each room, these being- necessary for art and craft work. Mr Ellery reported the donation by Mr F. 0. Bailey of a load of firewood. A letter of thanks is to be forwarded to the donor. It was decided to hold the picnic at the Manawatu Heads at the end of tho month. A sports programme is to be hold, this being left in charge of tho head teacher. It was also decided to purchase gift books and toys I for tho pupils in the lower classes. A further meeting will be held to finalise matters. The head .teacher’s report stated that there had been a slight decrease in tho roll number from last year. During the month a modified curriculum was in operation, when lessons in swimming, first-aid and life-saving, etc., were being given. It was also reported that the following pupils had qualified for a learner’s certificate (50yds) : Kuku Walker, Harry Palmer, Jill Bartlett. Jack Bartlett. Dick Walker; 65 per cent of the school could now swim.
Mr and Mrs L. Koberstein nyid family are on holiday at Manawatu Heads. Mr and Mis F. 0. Bailey have left the district and settled temporarily in Palmerston North.
