ST. GEORGE GOES OVER AT FIRST MARK.—Most notable of the many spectacular incidents in the first race for the eighteen-footer world championship was the capsize of the Australian yacht St. George as it rounded the first mark off Chelsea. St. George (at extreme left), sailing a fine race to that point, crowded round the mark first. A moment later she had gone over and her crew was in the water. Jeanette then took the lead from Vaalele, Manu and Taree and was not headed until the last minute, when Manu slipped ahead to win by seven seconds.
