MARTON, Feb. 15. Sergeant and Mrs T. F. Brencliloy, who spent the week-end with friends in New Plymouth, have returned to Marton.

Batting first against Taihape Railway, Porewa Cricket Club, in a match of the series being held under the auspices of the Rangitikei Cricket Association, put on 154 runs (Parkinson 44, Cameron 26, H. R. Marshall not out 41, A. B. Marshall 23) for the loss of five wickets, after which they deed a ted their innings closed. Taihape Railway knocked up only 129 (Cherry 27, Holmes not out 27, Reid 25) for eight wickets, thus losing the match. A corresponding number of wickets to those in the former match were lost by Taihape and Marton when they met, the former having first use of the bat to make 202 (Revell 61, P. Marshall 51, Whittle 41), to which their opponents replied with 165 (Smith” 49, Louden 27) before time was called. Hunterville beat Old Boys by 32 runs. Hunterville compiled 118 (Tolley 44, Packard 29, Hayward 21; Low 5 for 38), Old Boys replying with 86 (Ivlitscher 23, Beechey 21; Towers 5 for 42). MARTON. Feb. 16. Dr. It. A. Church was in the chair at the first meeting for the year of the Marton District High School Committee. The headmaster (Mr A. W. Tucker) reported that the school re-opened with the addition of pupils formerly attending Upper Tutaenui and Woodlands Schools, making a total of 323 iii the primary department and 132 in the secondary department, both being higher than in any preceding year. Mr M. C. Amadio and Mrs 11. H. Fromm had joined as permanent members of the staff. Miss M. Dales had. joined as probationary assistant, and Miss J. McQueen as supernumerary assistant. Four telephones are to be installed in the school for inter-communication purposes. It lia« been necessary to transfer one class to the Technical buildings, in High Street, owing _to kick of accommodation. The sun-dial, donated by the Tutaenui School Committee, is to be erected in front of the school.
