FEILDING EWE FAIR.

QUALITY MEDIUM TO GOOD. ATTENDANCE LARGE. Feilding’s annual ewe fair was held to-day in perfect weather, the yarding comprising 44,000- breeding ewes, attracting a huge attendance. Owing to the large number of entries, the 2-ths and older sheep were offered simultaneously and promptly at 11 o’clock a start was made with the sale, which was expected to last until a late hour. Perfect organisation resulted in the auction proceeding without a hitch, and credit is due to the auctioneers and staff responsible for the able manner in which the colossal entry was managed. Long before the ..sale commenced buyers were at the yards inspecting the offering and making their selections. The quality of the breeding ewes on offer hardly compared favourably with previous years’ offerings, but it was expected that there would be fair demand tlixougliout. With the yarding making available 12,000 sheep more than last year, buyers were presented with an excellent range of all ages of ewes. All parts of the North Island were represented by buyers. It was apparent that a good many thousands of the sheep submitted by vendors should have been sent to the freezing works on account of their poor quality. It was stated that the bulk of the yarding comprised ewes of from medium to good quality. The market for 2-ths. was quite bright this morning and better than was anticipated. Brown Bros, topped the early sales with a pen of 30 attractive 2-ths. which sold at 455, while their second pen of 84 made 355. There were few passings. In regard to the older sheep in the hurdle peris the sale was not so brisk and there were quite a few passings. Prices up to 1 p.m. were as follow Two-ths. on account V.
