CENTRAL SCHOOL.

RESIGNATION OF TREASURER. Advice was received at a meeting of the Central School Committee, last evening, from Air AY. J. Fitzgerald, who has been treasurer of the committee since liis election about three years ago, that owing to his military duties frequently calling him out of town he would be unable to act further on the committee.

Commenting that Air Fitzgerald was of a most conscientious nature, the chairman (Air AY. G. Black) moved that the treasurer’s resignation be received with regret, and that an appreciation of liis valuable work for the school and the committee be placed on record. Air L. Y. AYinks was elected to fill, the vacancy occasioned on the committee, Air H. Palmer being appointed treasurer.

Those present at the meeting were Messrs AY. G. Black (in the chair), H. Palmer, N. R. Leaclier, F. A. Senter, 11. Patterson and G. Farrar (secretary).

“At the end of the last school year,” stated the headmaster (Air E. Barv) in his report, “the roll was 760. Of these 104 left at the end of the year, and G 4 pupils have been admitted, making the present -roll' 720. Tho average attendance for the two weeks since the school reopened was 667 and 680 respectively. At tlio commencement of tho term the following took up teaching appointments at the school: Aliss .T. Alountfort, infant mistress; Alisses Tomlinson, and Dickson,, and Airs Allen, relieving assistants; Aliss Sheppard and Mr AATutehead, probationary assistants; and Miss S. Phillips, supernumerary teacher. During the holidays Aliss E. Chalmers resigned to take up a position at Hastings, and at the end of last week Aliss Tomlinson left to take up a permanent position in Napier. So far nothing has been done with the cinema apparatus this year, hut we intend to commence regular use of it at the end of this month.” The annual picnic is to be held at Ashhurst on Alarch 8. Alessrs Patterson and Leacher were appointed a visiting committee for this month.
