TAXI-DRIVERS DEFRAUDED.
“PUBLIC ENEMY NO. 1.” Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 16. Alleged to have victimised four taxidrivers to a total extent of £1 17s, Edward Dardanelles de Alalmanche appeared before Air E. C. Levvey, S.AI., in the Magistrate’s. Court this morning. He pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Sinclair said that De Alalmanche had hired taxis, giving false names and addresses. ‘Amongst taxi-drivers,” said Air Sinclair, “lie is in American parlance ‘Public Enemy No. I.’ ” De Alalmanche was en fenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour, to be followed by eighteen months’ reformative detention.
