A deep depression passed rapidly across the South Island last night and an anti-cyclone is now advancing from south-eastern Australia on to the Tasman Sea.

Forecast. —Strong southerly winds reaching gale force in a few exposed positions, but gradually decreasing. Weather: Cloudy to overcast with some scattered light rain at first east of the ranges, but soon improving. Temperatures, cool; seas, rough but decreasing by to-morrow.
