'From Our Own Correspondent.) ' AWAIICRI, Feb. 14.

A surprise party was taken to Mr and Mrs it. Foster’s home to give them a warm welcome to tiro district. 'J he time «a» spent in games, competitions and community singing. Mr W. Ward rendered vocal Hems, and after supper had been served. Mr Foster expressed appreciation of the visit and said a welcome awaited those who found it possible to visit them. Muscat honours were accorded Mr and Mrs Foster, 'those present were: Mesdames O’Farrell. R. IVennett, R. MeConaohy, A. II Goodman, Krllin’ (Ballanco). Misses Alikkelson, O’Donnell. Essex, Anderson, Edlin and O’Farrell, Messrs Holland, Mikkelson (2), Edlin, Houghton, Goodman, Crawford, Madsen (2), Ward and Geary. A further meeting was held in the church on Saturday evening to finalise arrangements for the garden party to be held at the residence of the Misses I ton no M and Mr C. Bennett. Mr J. (.’. Christian presided. It was decided to have a. baby show for babies under twelve months and another class for babies under two years and over twelve months. The trophies have kindly been donated by Mrs M. Bennett, senr., and Miss Bennett. Competitions decided upon arc: Dart, throwing, distance stepping, basket ball throwing, clock golf, nail driving, football kicking and quoits. Good trophies are being donated for all competitions. There will also be the icecream and sweet stall, produce and jumble tables, while afternoon tea will he served at a small charge. The proceeds arc to assist the work in the mission fields and the church work generally, the Awahuri and Kopane districts combining in this effort. If the weather proves to be unfavourable the organisers arc to carry on in the. Awahuri Hall. Next, month the farmers and those interested are to he favoured with a Jersey cow demonstration on the. farm of Mr A. Montgomerie. Full particulars and the date are to be advertised later. The pastures in this district are now looking very parched. The root crops arc much smaller than is usual for this time of the year. Housewives are experiencing dif ficulty through a shortage of water for household purposes; several homes have their tanks empty, and are at present using artesian water, which is not very pleasant.
