Matai firewood was advertised for sale at 25s a cord. The amoujit of rates struck by the Pohangina County Council was £6382 15s 8d and the amount collected £6329 3s 2d, leaving only £53 12s 6d outstanding. A number of Palmerston North croquet enthusiasts decided to ask the Borough Council for permission to use the Sportsground for a croquet match with Wanganui.
The volcano Colima, in Mexico, was in eruption. Subterranean detonations were heard and showers of hot sand killed vegetation over a large area. A stream of lava a. mile long ran down the mountain side.
