NORTH ISLAND FINALS

HAWKS WORTH BEATS HERRINS

AIASTERTON, Jan. 24. "With the exception of the mixed doubles, all the finals have been concluded at the North Island tennis championships.

P. Hawkswortli, New Zealand badminton singles champion, played brilliantly to beat R. Mel/. Ferkins, Wellington, in the men’s final. Two Hawke’s Bay players, Mrs G. Cotterill and Miss M. Glennv, met in the women’s final, the latter winning in straight sets. The men’s doubles were won by Ferkins and Ferkins, who beat Painter and Kidyer in the final, after disposing of the Wairarapa title-holders, Hawkswortli and G. A. Pearce, in the semi-final. Details:— MEN’S SINGLES. Fourth round.—R„ McL. Ferkins beat J. Brown, 6—2, 6—l ; S. Painter beat J. N. Lowry, 6—3, 6—l. Semi-finals.—Hawkswortli beat G. A. Pearce, 6—l, 6—o; Ferkins beat Painter, 6—3, 6—o. Final.—Hawkswortli beat Ferkins, 6—3, 6—l, 6—2. WOMEN ’ S SING LES. Semi-finals.—Miss M. Gleiiny beat Miss L. M.
