The fortnight'iy sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Peihling was held to-day, Air R. Al. Watson, S.AL, presiding. On charges of using a trailer at night without a light, and Ruling to possess a warrant of fitness in respect of the trailer, E. AV. Barnett, of Tokoraugi, was lined 10s, with ]2s costs on the first charge, and £l, with 10s costs, on the second. Air J. Graham, who appeared for defendant, said that the latter left his ear. and business
relative to it, with a garage to attend to, but apparently the warrant of fitness had been overlooked by the garage proprietors, and. while admitting that this submission was no excuse. counsel said that his client had not- deliberately been guilty of a breach.
Por driving without care and attention a motor-car in Aorangi I Street;. Pcilding. on December 28. I J 938. K. J. Crichton, of Newmarket, j Aiiokla.nd. was lined £1 10s. with costs 10s. E. S. Hawkins, land salesman, of AVaiiganui, was charged with driving a motor ear at a dangerous speed n.t Awahuri on November 2G. 1938. Defendant pleaded not quilty. A conviction was entered and a line of 30s. with costs 11s, imposed. Por allowing 140 ewes and lambs to he at large without proper guidance on a public road at Kopanc. J. R. ADuugston, of Kopanc. was lined L'2. with costs amounling to 225. DRINKING AT AIAORI PA.
Reginald T. jlii'st, Jabourei', of Pcilding, on a charge of supplying liquor to a native, was convicted and lined L's, with costs and witnesses’ expenses amounting to 28s. Sidney Graham, of Kai lwi, To Arakuru, for supplying liquor to natives, was convicted and lined £2, with costs and witnesses’ expenses amounting to £l. Hamiora Teieti (known as Sam TaitL labourer, of Te A.rakura, was ordered to pay costs. 15s, on a ( barge of supplying liquor to a native. On a charge of supplying liquor to a female native, Hamiora Teieti was fined £3. with costs. Tain Kingi. labourer, Te Arakura, for supplying liquor to a female native, was lined £3, with costs in all amounting to 235, and was ordered to pay costs in respect of. a charge of supplying liquor to a native. Sergeant: Turner said that complaints had been made regarding drinking at the Kai lwi pa, and on the evening of December 3 Constables Strawbridge and Johnston visited the pa and found natives to be drinking. Accused Hirst had been found to he supplying the liquor to Graham, who in turn took it to the pa and had treated the natives there.
