This was the order to the straight without material change. Then Lady Montana came on and took charge. She was clear about 50 yards off the post, where Haughty Winner, vigorously handled, just landed tho stake. There was a very close finish for third between Queen of Song, Wild Chase, and Gay Son with the whole field bunched. KAITOKE HANDICAP, of £300; second £6O; third £3O. Six furlongs. 3-3 DENSITY, Mr D. Grant’s blk f, 3 yrs, by Pink Coat —Denise, 8.8 (C. T. Wilson) 1 1- WILD TALK, 8.0 (L. J. Ellis) ... 2 6- TEAK, 7.9 (P. Spratt) 3 Also started: 8-8 Garonne 9.1 (Ridgway), 2- Ecstatic 8.10 (B. 11. The Bigot and Dungarvan were always well placed, and The Bigot took charge at the false rail. Miehno. was sent hack in the last 100 yards when trying to get up on the inner of Dungarvan, but for which ho would have been well in the finish. The hot_ favourite, llinerawe, failed badly, never being a possibility, the event being won unexpectedly by her stablernate, Drachma, who was sold at tho sales on Friday very cheaply. Waka also finished well, after being not too well placed early. Ruling Spi had every chance, specially when the leaders ran out entering tho straight, but her extra weight found her unable to take advantage of the opportunity.
