EVIDENCE AT INQUEST.
Per Press Association. MASTERTON, Jan. 23. “Dear Fred.—Sorry old chap, hut I admit defalcation. I’m done; I have m fight left. Don’t tell the world, Fred. Make it easy for me. I’m not with it. I know I' have lost money gambling.” Tn these words ran a note left by Alfred Rippon and addressed to Mr F. O. Davis, of Johnsonville, district auditor and hook examiner of the Wellington District of the Oddfellows’ Lodge. Evidence to this effect was given at the inquest, which was opened and adjourned. Rippon, who was financial secretary of the Masterton Oddfellows’ Lodge, was found dead on Saturday. The evidence of Mr Davis, who came to Masterton on Saturday to examine the hooks, was that, after he had made a perusal of the lodge books, indications were that there was a shortage of about £l5O of certain funds shown as being in the hands of Rippon as secretary. When Mr Davis visited the lodge rooms ho found Rippon dead.
